GRAPHICS
Live Area: Make sure your graphics and
type do not extend too close to a trim edge. Type and
graphics not intended to bleed should be at least 3/8
clear of the head, foot, face, gutter or other trim
area.
All photos must be at least 300 dpi. All
line art or bitmap images should be 1200 dpi.
Supply all placed images separately, even if
you have embedded them in your master file. Please avoid
embedding images. Place them as linked files if possible.
Rotate and size images in their original program,
i.e., Illustrator, Freehand or Photoshop, before importing
into Pagemaker, InDesign or Quark; they will image faster.
When superimposing silhouetted graphics make
sure you save them with a clipping path. (Remember to
turn clipping path on and save with a flatness
setting of 1.)
In Quark Xpress, when placing TIFF files in picture
boxes, make sure the background is set to white
or black 0%. If the background needs to
stay none, you MUST create a clipping path
to properly silhouette the image. Images silhouetted
in Quark picture boxes with background set to none will
print correctly only in composite mode to your office
printerthey will NOT print correctly as separations
to any Postscript RIP.
To reduce banding in gradations, use a broad
range (e.g., 5%-95% as opposed to 40%-60%). In Photoshop,
Add Noise (Gaussian) of 3 pixels (or 4%, in version
7 or later) to blends and watch any banding disappear.
Avoid using JPEGS, BMPs, PICTs or any nonstandard
bitmap file format. Bitmap support files should be EPS
or Tiff files.
